BMW X4 will be built exclusively in the US

The X4 will share the sporty design cues of the X6, while also sharing the powertrains of the X3. Roughly the size of the well-received X3, the BMW X4 will feature xDrive's all-wheel drive, auto start-stop, a heads-up display and voice control. The same 4-door "coupe SAV" design of the X6 will grace the X4, as it is meant to be competition for Porsche's Cayenne. Also planned is a X4 M Performance Edition with a twin-turbo inline 6 and pairing with a 7-speed transmission.

The assembly plant expansion will boost the annual production capacity to 350,000 vehicles by 2014, and will ship these units globally. Other popular BMWs assembled in Spartansburg in the 18 years of its existence have been the Z3, Z4, X3, X5, X6 and 3 Series.
