There isn't just three batteries and a host of supporting electrical hardware under the ActiveE's hood, there is a driving design meant to lead the charge into BMW's all-electric endeavors under the subdivision called "BMW i". The entire car is using technology ultimately designed for BMW's upcoming i3 vehicle. The ActiveE is based on a 1 series coupe, and that's exactly what it looks like, accept for the telltale bump on the hood that cloaks one of its lithium-ion batteries. The ActiveE is rear-wheel drive, and it's probably the first electric mass-production vehicle to have it. The motor provides an impressive 168HP and 184lb-ft of torque. It can do 0-62 in just shy of 9 seconds, which is excellent for an all-electric and more than adequate for your typical Miami forays. Steering is nicely responsive, and the body roll is non-existent. Range is approximately 100 miles of typical driving, and it will take 4 to 6 hours to fully charge from a 220 volt wall box. Only 700 of these will be available in the US, and all of them will be exclusive 2-year leases, so if you want onboard, contact our Miami dealership and we'll get you the information on how you can lease one.
