American driving instructor and BMW enthusiast won an opportunity to visit Leipzip, Germany, the home of one of BMW's plants, to see and drive the upcoming BMW 1 Series M Coupe. After a half-day tour of the assembly plant where they got to see the new series being built in real time, the American driving instructor and the rest of the lucky group were ushered outside where 3 1 Series M Coupes were waiting for them. Once behind the seat of the all-new BMW M vehicle, they started off the test drive by heading straight to the Autobahn. On this fast speed highway, the 1 Series M Coupe showed just what it could do with all that power under the hood. Despite massive amounts of rain, the car gripped the road confidently even under heavy acceleration, nailing corners while hitting a thrilling 110MPH (they were not permitted to pass the "lead car" driven by BMW). Pressing the "M" button on the dash delivered even tighter throttle response and an aggressive performance. The press and the additional driver were along for the ride, and despite the full house, camera equipment AND two of the group well over 6 feet tall, everyone had plenty of room and comfort forward and aft. Cone slalom followed, along with skid pad and closed circuit laps. The BMW 1 Series M Coupe handled every challenge the drivers could provide. Visually, the all-new BMW 1 Series M Coupe is remarkable. Large air ducts adorn the front for brake cooling, a massively flared rear showcase fat 19-inch racing wheels, two-tone side mirrors boast sporty openings for air flow, while the dash is vintage M with red pointers on the dials and a sharply placed M Logo. Weight distribution between the axles is a perfect 50/50, with power offered at a staggering 340 HP, more than enough to propel the under 3,300lb frame to a new level of driving excitement. In the end, all 12 lucky participants walked away having enjoyed the first public hands-on experience with the latest from BMW M Division. Not to mention the widest smiles you may ever see." |
